Is it only Gothic?
How I see Gothic style.
When I google gothic this is one definition I find: " Gothic fashion is a clothing style marked by conspicuously dark, mysterious, antiquated and homogenous features. It is worn by members of the Goth subculture. A dark, sometimes morbid fashion and style of dress, typical gothic fashion includes a pale complexion with coloured black hair, black lips and black clothes. The goth subculture, began in England during the early-1980s where it was developed from the gothic rock scene, itself an offshoot of the post-punk genre. Notable post-punk groups that presaged that genre include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division and Bauhaus."
When I try to describe the style of my jewellery I always say it has a gothic feel to it, and reading the definition , yes! I always liked, black, punk, red lips, etc... but I think Ecrannium jewellery, even if it definitely has a gothic fell to it, it is more than all this.
In this journey, that I started a few years back, I found that when I tried to sell my jewellery in some shops I got the answer that my jewellery was a little bit gothic or too edgy for the normal public. But what it's normal this days! I love wearing a black leather jacket with red lips and big chunky silver ring, but I also like wearing a pale pink dress with a pearl, or a pair of jeans with trainers and a hoody. So I'd like to thing that we can be defined with more than one word. We can be punk, posh, gothic, or sporty depending of the day, year, mood or whatever. I want to encourage people to try new things, and don't go and say, umm! this is not my style because, yes! I know every one have their own style but It can always develop, otherwise this fashion business would be boring! At least for me...
One of the key things I always read and I have been told about building your own brand is that you really have to define your style, so you can find your market. This is why I will never be good at business, I know what I like, I can see my jewellery is reminiscent of different styles, but I don't want to categorise my brand with one word, even when I will be better off listening to the experts. Or other option would be do whatever I like and as Robe from Extremoduro (the best Spanish rock/punk/ heavy etc ..) ever said a couple of times in his interviews "let the experts define and put labels on what we do and we will carry on doing what we like.
Love for every one 💋
